Olds College, a college on highway 2 in between Calgary and Red Deer, Alberta, is trying to answer the call for the need for qualified workers in the cannabis space.

The college has introduced a course that will teach the horticultural skills needed to work in greenhouses, as well as to deal with the strict regulations that will be in place.

“We wanted to ensure that we were responding to a legal industry and because we’re known for horticultural programming...it seems like a very good fit and natural for people to approach Olds College.” says Debbie Thompson, vice-president academic at the agricultural college.

The course will be starting in July and will run for two and a half months, mixing an online component and two weeks of hands-on experience, partnering with Sundial Growers.
