Three major cannabis producers have had their stocks jump on reports that the U.K. spirits maker Diageo Plc has been in talks with them for a major investment or partnership.

After BNN Bloomberg TV reported the talks, Aurora Cannabis Inc., Aphria Inc, and Canopy rose 3.6 per cent, 6.8 per cent, and 7.2 per cent respectively by 10 AM.

The rumors come after a recent deal between Canopy Growth Corporation and Constellation brands, the owner of popular beers such as Corona and Modella, which saw the alcohol giant invest nearly CAD$5 billion for 38 percent of Canopy, with the option for over 50 per cent in the future.

The alcohol and cannabis spaces are merging faster than ever, as Heineken’s California subsidiary has already gone to market with a cannabis infused beer, and Molson Coors Brewing Co. signed a partnership with Hydropothecary to develop the same.
