One of Germany’s largest public health insurers, Techniker Krankenkassen (or TK), has provided a report on patient demographics and medical cannabis treatment.

The report, outlines a number of trends, among them are:
  • Most patients are women - the drug is most often prescribed to women in their forties, fifties, and sixties.
  • Not all patients are getting covered, including those that chronically ill - many doctors have been hesitant to prescribe it for many conditions, citing lack of evidence as a treatment.
  • The cost of German medical marijuana is significant -  The process of importing medical marijuana from countries such as Canada, has dramatically increased the price.
