A Missouri medical cannabis clinic with three locations set to open in July will offer free evaluations to veterans for the first 30 days, Ozarks First reports.

Missouri Marijuana Card (MMC) is opening clinics in Kansas City, Springfield, and St. Louis. While it is the practice’s first foray into the state, it opened 12 other locations in Ohio in 2018 and opted to expand to Missouri when the state legalized medical cannabis last November.

Medical cannabis from a licensed retailer could be up for sale by early 2020, but patients will require approval from a physician to gain legal access - which can be a costly endeavour in the United States.

“As part of our launch, we wanted to give back to those that have served this country,” MMC president Connor Shore said in a statement. “We’ve witnessed firsthand in Ohio how many veterans use medical marijuana to alleviate PTSD symptoms, but unfortunately, the lack of insurance coverage has made access prohibitively expensive for some.”

To qualify for a card, one must also be a Missouri resident (with proof of residency) and have a diagnosis of one of a list of the qualifying conditions, which include cancer, epilepsy, glaucoma, and chronic pain.

Once patients have provided the clinic with documentation proving residency and qualifying illness, MMC will help the patient acquire their medical cannabis card from the Department of Health.

The company has hopes of opening more clinics in other U.S. states in the near future.
