When Oregon lawmakers implemented the states recreational marijuana laws, their goal was to stamp out the black market. It appears they have done just that, however they are beginning to run out legal businesses as well.

By having low barriers of entry to the market such as no cap to licenses, allowing business to apply for multiple licenses, and implementing relatively low fee’s the state hoped to drive prices for consumers down to bring them into the legal market.

They have been successful in doing so, as a massive oversupply of dried marijuana has resulted in prices dropping dramatically to $7 a gram from $14 in 2015.

The low prices have put retailers under pressure, and it is expected that many of them will be forced to shut down until the market finds its equilibrium.
