In a memo to clients last week, RBC Capital Markets analysts out the growth of the U.S. marijuana industry. The report stated that the legal cannabis sector is set to grow at a 17% CAGR over the next ten years. That growth equates to as much as $47 billion in annual sales.

Nick Modi, the analyst that wrote the letter, says that the U.S. industry is already at $50 billion, but did not specify how much of that was estimated from the illegal market.

When asked about federal regulation against the drug, “We believe further U.S. decriminalization of cannabis including for recreational use is very likely over time,” Modi said. “It ultimately starts with U.S. voters who across demographics are supportive of cannabis legalization.”
