Canadian cannabis companies may get a highly-anticipated gift before Christmas as the federal government is set to announce rules that will govern the edibles market.

According to Marijuana Business Daily, the draft regulations for edibles and concentrate products will be published in the Canada Gazette, the government's official newspaper published every Saturday.

After the regulations are announced, a public consultation will be held to allow industry executives, the general public, and local governments to comment on the proposed rules.

It was announced earlier this year that marijuana edibles and concentrates will be legal by October 17, 2019, one year after dry cannabis was legalized, and it seems the government is currently ahead of its timeline.

The market for cannabis edibles will likely be a massive one that Canadian cannabis companies are eager to get in. With higher revenues and a wider base of potential consumers, it will surely be a boost to the bottom line of those entering the new product line.

Colorado saw sales of edibles and concentrates rise from 26.3% of the legal cannabis market in 2014 to almost 40% in 2017, according to a report by the Marijuana Policy Group.
