British Columbian based medical marijuana licensed producer Tilray announced that is has formed a strategic partnership with Sandoz Canada. The Quebec-based affiliate of Sandoz International GmbH is an arm of the $188 billion Pharmaceutical giant, Novartis.

The move is the first time the medical cannabis industry has seen the entry of a major pharmaceutical organization, giving more authenticity to the potential that medical cannabis has for its patients.
Tilray has also signed agreements with NOWEDA, one of Germany’s largest pharmaceutical distributors as well as Shoppers Drug mart, Canada’s largest pharmacy chain.

Tilray’s statement:
“This agreement is a major milestone on the long road to legitimizing medical cannabis as conventional medicine,” said Brendan Kennedy, Tilray Chief Executive Officer. “Tilray is pleased to be, what we believe is, the first federally licensed producer of medical cannabis to form a strategic alliance with a local affiliate of a global pharmaceutical company to improve the availability and quality of medical cannabis products for Canadian patients in need.”
