In a move that the industry has been anticipating for months, Molson-Coors has announced who it will partner with. The company plans to join forces with Gatineau, Quebec based Hexo cannabis to create a non-alcoholic, THC infused beer.

Together the two will form a standalone company, with Molson-Coors owning 57.5 percent, and Hexo owning the rest.

The move was expected across the sector as the rising popularity of what will be cannabis-infused drinks is a direct threat to alcohol producers in the country. The threat has lead to many breweries to join forces with the cannabis industry, including Corona maker, Constellation Brands, who owns 10 percent of Canopy Growth Corp.

Hexo, formally Hydropothecary, recently signed a deal with the Quebec government to supply 20,000 kg of dried cannabis to its cannabis retailers.
