For a program that only began in February 2018, Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program has excelled. At its beginning, more than 17,000 patients were registered. By march, there are roughly 21,000 patients participating, all being served by 14 dispensaries.

In April, Governor Tom Wolf announced phase two to allow the industry to continue to grow. With it, came 13 new grower/processor permits, as well as 23 new primary dispensaries.

The most impressive feat for the young program however is undoubtedly its research into medical cannabis. In May, eight universities in the state were approved to participate in clinical research studies to explore the drug. That program has since been put on hold due to a judge-induced halt, however optimism is still rampant throughout the state’s industry.
