Anxiety is an issue that many North American adults experience and can have crippling consequences in extreme cases. There are many pharmaceutically prescribed drugs out there that aim to address the issue such as Xanax and valium, but most, if not all, can come with brutal side effects.

This is where CBD is making one of its strongest cases for research. Many self-medicated people who suffer from anxiety, whether social or generalized, claim that medical-marijuana, or more specifically CBD, helps to calm them down.

A 2017 research study at Sao Paulo University in Brazil found that “cannabinoid (CBD) was shown to decrease anxiety in patients with social phobia”.  It is believed that the CBD interacts with the bodies endocannabinoid system to create a calming effect. It is clear however that as Marijuana becomes more accepted and used in North America, research will need to follow, and the effects of CBD on anxiety will surely be among the forefront.
