At an hour-long special presentation, New Jersey State Health Commissioner Shereef Elnahal stated it was his goal to “demystify” medical marijuana because of the work it is doing for thousands of patients.

Elnahal called for more research to officially classify the medication. He also hopes to provide doctors and medical students with education in their schooling and practice in order to provide them with the confidence to prescribe it as one of the first options they consider.

New Jersey currently has over 22,000 registered medical marijuana patients but only 622 program participating doctors in the state.
