A recent study published in the journal Frontiers last month shed some light on how cannabidiol (CBD) oil can help dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.

Researchers at Cornell University recruited 22 dogs with osteoarthritis and gave them different doses of hemp-derived CBD oil in a randomized, placebo-controlled, owner and vet double-blind, cross over trial. Throughout the study, veterinarians and pet owners were responsible for documenting each dogs pain status, activity, and behavior.

The study authors wrote “the study showed that CBD oil increase comfort and activity in the home environment for dogs with osteoarthritis...Additionally, veterinary assessment of pain were also favorable.”

The study is useful because cannabis-derived medicines are beginning to see research dollars throughout the world for humans, however there are only a handful of studies put into their effects on animals.
