The city of Calgary will allow festivals to block off areas specifically set up for cannabis smokers when recreationally legalized.

The idea behind the move is to focus the strong smell of marijuana in one region of a festival, rather than letting it impact the other attendees who may not want to participate.

Festival organizers have raised some concern however. Sarah Leishman, Calgary Folk Festival executive director, stated that one consumption site can cost approximately $2,500 with no chance of recouping the price through sales or sponsorship.
