On Wednesday the United States Attorney General Jeff Sessions handed in his letter of resignation to President Donald Trump upon the President's request.

Members of the marijuana industry as well as proponents of drug reform in the United States are celebrating the move, as one of the biggest opponents of legalised or decriminalised marijuana is out of the White house.

Despite a rapid wave of US states legalizing or decriminalizing marijuana, Sessions refused to budge on any form of drug policy reform. He is notorious for once saying “Good people don't smoke marijuana”, making him the punchline for Late-Night TV jokes and the enemy of pro-cannabis groups.

The stance of his successor on cannabis are not yet known.
