According to a recent poll by the University of Texas and the Texas Tribune, A majority of Texans believe that cannabis should be legalized in the state.

The poll found 53 percent of Texans said they would support legalization, up ten points from 2015. 31 percent of respondents said that medical marijuana should be legal, while 16 percent said it should remain completely illegal.

Political affiliation and age had a major impact, as two-thirds of Democrats said they supported full legalization, compared to only 39 percent of Republicans.

The growing support is significant for the marijuana industry, as Texas has almost 30 million people and is the country’s second largest economy.

Last month, the Republican Party of Texas added marijuana decriminalization and medical marijuana legalization to their official platform.
