A survey polling the British public found that support for the legalization of marijuana has skyrocketed over the previous six months, after notable medical cases in the country and Canadian legalization.

The poll, conducted by Populus and commissioned by thinktanks Volteface and the Centre for Medicinal Cannabis, found that 59 percent of people strongly support or tend to support legalization compared to 31 percent who oppose it.

Support for legalization was most eminent among young people ages 18-24 with 68 percent in favour, while those over 65 years of age came in at 49 percent in favour.

65 percent of the public believe British cannabis laws should be reformed in some way, but there was a split between those who support legalization and those who support decriminalization, at 40 percent to 25 percent respectively.
