Amid growing use in the country, the government of Switzerland has allowed for scientific trials into the impact of recreational cannabis use on health and public safety.

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) has been refusing requests from a number of Swiss cities for the right to perform such studies, due to lack of a legal framework. It appears now the government has given in, and proposed new changes should all those studies to move forward.

The trials will run short-term, and will have a limited number of participants. Only citizens over the age of 18 will be able to participate, and current laws on marijuana will stay in place.

The plans are up for consultation until October 25th.
