The Swiss parliament has rejected a motion to allow the use of cannabis in scientific studies investigating the drug’s effects.

The bill was rejected by a margin of 96 to 93, with two abstentions.

Those against the bill saw it as a “back-door” route to full legalization of cannabis, while those for it claimed that it would allow for a better understanding of possible health and social problems.
